The ACN (UK) office and all the charity's other offices around the world express great joy over the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV – the 267th leader of the Catholic Church.

He was elected yesterday evening (8th May) during the fourth ballot held by the conclave, which consisted of 133 Cardinal electors.

ACN (UK) national director Dr Caroline Hull was in St Peter’s Square, Rome when the election of the new pontiff was announced, shared these words:

“As a pontifical foundation, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) relies heavily on the support and guidance of the Holy Father, especially on his love and prayers for all those who suffer for their faith. We welcome our newly selected spiritual leader, Pope Leo...”

Dr Hull was in Rome with more than 1,000 supporters of ACN from 23 different countries for the charity’s jubilee pilgrimage.

Father Dominic after the announcement of Pope Leo XIV

As hundreds of supporters of ACN and staff from across the globe came together in St Peter's Square during this momentous time, ACN Ecclesiastical Assistant, Fr Dominic had these words to share.

As Fr Dominic calls on us to pray for Pope Leo XIV, giving thanks that the Holy Spirit has provided us with a new Holy Father to lead us, we too ask that you pray with us.

Collect for the Pope

O God, who in your providential design
willed that your Church be built upon blessed Peter,
whom you set over the other Apostles,
look with favour, we pray, on Leo XIV, our Pope
and grant that he, whom you have made Peter’s successor,
may be for your people a visible source and foundation of
unity in faith and of communion.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Amen

ROSARY CAMPAIGN FOR POPE LEO XIV

© Mazur/cbcew.org.uk

As we did for Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis, Aid to the Church in Need (UK) would like to offer our new holy father, Pope Leo XIV, a spiritual bouquet: our prayers and support for our pontiff and shepherd as he starts his ministry.

As a charity consecrated to, and under the protection of, Our Lady of Fatima, it is fitting to offer our prayers in the Rosary. Today, we are inviting you, your parishes, schools and groups to get involved and offer decades of the Rosary for Pope Leo.

Pledge your Decades here

As the campaign gains momentum in the coming weeks, we will keep you updated and let you know how and when we will be able to offer this spiritual gift to His Holiness. Please pledge your decades here and share the link!
